ABOUT YOUTH 4 TRUTH

Youth 4 Truth
Mission Statement

Youth 4 Truth is a Catholic Youth conference geared towards and designed specifically for homeschoolers. The Conference is formated to specifically provide Catholic homeschoolers a deeper, more developed understanding of the teachings of the Catholic Faith. Giving the youth an experiance and a intellectual depth to their faith that is not possible at many other youth events.

THREE PRIORITIES: Faith, Friendship and Fun

The Conference like many other ministries and Catholic organizations has as its three priorities; The education of homeschooled youth in the richness of the Catholic Tradition, the building up of the Catholic homeschooled community and energizing and revitalizing teens and youth.

OUR THREE PRIORITIES

Faith

The Youth 4 Truth conference gives home schooled youth a specialy opportunity to delve with greater depth into the immense intelectual and complex tradition of the Catholic faith.

The conference has as its first goal, informing youth about the intelligence and beauty of the faith.

Friendship

Catholic home schooled families comprise a very small minority in our society, which is why the Team of the Youth 4 Truth Conference know the role it plays in building up the catholic home schooled community.

Giving youth in this minority the knowledge that they are not alone in their journey as home schoolers is the second priority of Y4T, and many deep and lasting friendships have come about through the conference.

Fun

The Catholic faith is about celebrating the life of Christ in us, we have come to learn that after friendships are made and truths are revealed, that the best response is a joyful one, that is why the conference is filled with activities to promote the fun and excitement of our faith.

And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.

Colossians 3:14-16

OUR HISTORY

Beginning of Y4T

Youth for Truth was started by a group of teens who were responding to the increasing numbers of youth who were coming to the Western Canadian Catholic Home School Conference. The first Youth for Truth conference was held June 19- 21, 2001 at Camp Cadicasu, a Catholic camp in Bragg Creek, just west of Calgary. It was designed for mature youth, 14 and older, who chose to homeschool and who wanted to deepen their understanding of the Catholic faith.

The main goal was for everyone to grow in love of Jesus, truly present in the Eucharist. The conference also aimed to promote vocations to the priesthood, religious life, and married life as well as to promote chastity and openness to following God’s plan for our lives. The young organizers prayed and hoped that they would be open to God’s will so He could work through them and this conference so that youth would be brought closer to Him through: daily mass, benediction, adoration, confession and spiritual direction, music ministry, rock solid Catholic teaching through speakers and priests faithful to the magisterium, lots of free time, sports, and campfires.

Youth for Truth was started by: Joanne and Mark Pollock, Sean and Shannon Williams, Mark Isinger, Michela Barter, Joe Bulman, Katie and Lauren Fowler, and Lindsay and Thomas Howell. Supported by: Fr. Paul Moret, Fr. Jim Hagel, Fr. Sylvain Casavant, Diane and Joe Pollock, and many amazing parents.

Renewal of Y4T

Following the absence of the conference, a number of home schooling parents and graduates, including Joseph and Dianne Pollock, decided to renew the apostolate of Youth 4 Truth. The conference was moved to Mount St. Francis the Franciscan Retreat Center near Cochrane Alberta, where it has remained to this day thanks to the incredible generosity of the Franciscans and staff of the Retreat Center.

Following the first year of the renewal, the Directorship of the conference passed to Amy Paul and the organizational team was to be comprised primarily of home schooled graduates.
